Sewing machines can be categorized by their purpose into household sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, and service industry sewing machines (falling between the two). They can also be classified by drive method into hand-cranked, foot-pedal, and electric sewing machines. Furthermore, they can be classified by the stitch type into imitation hand-sewing stitches, lockstitches, single-thread chain stitches, double-thread or multi-thread chain stitches, single-thread or multi-thread overlock chain stitches, and multi-thread cover chain stitches.
Household Sewing Machines: Initially, most were single-needle, hand-cranked sewing machines. Later, electric sewing machines were invented and have become the mainstream in the market. Based on their mechanism and stitch type, they can be roughly classified into JA, JB, JG, and JH types. One type of household sewing machine is the JG type electronic multi-functional household sewing machine.
Industrial sewing machines: Most industrial sewing machines are general-purpose sewing machines, including flatbed sewing machines, chain sewing machines, quilting machines, overlock sewing machines, and coverstitch sewing machines, with flatbed sewing machines being the most widely used.
