As a crucial component of the textile machinery sector, the sewing machine industry has exhibited significant characteristics in recent years, including accelerated technological iteration, diversified market demand, and a differentiated competitive landscape. Globally, the sewing machine industry has formed an industrial cluster centered on China, Japan, and Germany. China, with its complete industrial chain and cost advantages, accounts for over 70% of global industrial sewing machine production. According to B2B platform data, the domestic sewing machine market size was approximately 12 billion yuan in 2023, with a compound annual growth rate maintained between 5% and 8%. However, low-end products suffer from severe homogenization, while the high-end market remains dominated by foreign brands such as JUKI (Japan) and Dürkopp (Germany).

 

Technologically, the industry is undergoing a leapfrog upgrade from mechanical transmission to electronic intelligence. Traditional mechanical sewing machines are mostly priced between 2,000 and 8,000 yuan, while electronic sewing machines with automatic thread trimming and presser foot pressure adjustment functions have a market share exceeding 40%, with mainstream models priced between 12,000 and 35,000 yuan. Intelligent sewing machines, represented by brands like Brother and Singer, integrate IoT technology for remote monitoring and fault diagnosis. These machines, priced between 80,000 and 150,000 yuan, primarily serve garment customization factories and specialized sewing scenarios. This segmentation of application scenarios has spawned hundreds of models across four main categories: industrial flatbed sewing machines, overlock sewing machines, coverstitch sewing machines, and specialized machines. Industrial flatbed sewing machines account for 58% of the overall market share, but their growth rate has slowed to 3% per year due to cyclical fluctuations in the fast fashion industry. In contrast, specialized machines, such as template machines and patch pocket machines, adapted for small-batch customization, are growing at 12%.

 

Regarding industry standards, my country has established 17 national standards, including GB/T 4515-2021 "General Technical Conditions for Industrial Sewing Machines," which clearly stipulates key parameters such as noise, stitch density, and thread breakage rate. However, the low-to-mid-range market still suffers from issues such as lack of energy efficiency labeling and insufficient safety protection. A 2022 market supervision administration inspection showed that 35% of low-priced products had a risk of electrical leakage. Export markets face trade barriers such as EU CE certification and US UL standards, prompting leading companies to increase R&D investment. In 2023, the industry's average R&D intensity rose to 4.2%, higher than the level of the traditional machinery industry.

 

The competitive landscape is becoming increasingly polarized: leading companies are enhancing their technological barriers through mergers and acquisitions, such as Jack Sewing Machine Co., Ltd.'s acquisition of German company Tokamco, which resulted in a market share exceeding 35% in the template sewing machine sector. Meanwhile, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are focusing on regional markets, relying on price wars to survive, leading to a compression of the industry's average profit margin from 12% in 2018 to 7.8% in 2023. Notably, the rise of manufacturing in Southeast Asia is driving demand for equipment upgrades; Vietnam and Cambodia saw a 21% year-on-year increase in sewing machine imports in 2023, opening up new growth opportunities for domestic companies.
